Day 317: Ledge Preening

When you have feathers and are naturally gifted at everything you do, sometimes you might get bored with your everyday routine.

For instance, perhaps you have reached that time in the day when you always perform your “maximum prettiness” preening session.

Here, just to mix things up a bit, rather than preening on your large featherless assistant’s wide and comfy leg, on top of your cage, or on your smooth and steady perch, why not preen while perched on the edge of a narrow and precariously steep ledge?

In exchange, you get guaranteed “ooohs” and “aaahs” from your adoring fans…plus the personal satisfaction of easily mastering yet another difficult skill.

It's time for my daily "maximum prettiness" preening session.

It’s time for my daily “maximum prettiness” preening session.

I can feel my fans' eyes on me (as usual).

I think I'll up the ante today and treat them to a session of "ledge preening."

I can already hear the rustling as they scramble to find those rectangular flashing devices they carry everywhere.

Don't try this maneuver at home!

Here’s my “underwing swoop” maneuver.

Here's my "backwards neck crane" maneuver.

Here’s my “backwards neck crane” maneuver.

And my signature "underwing sweep" maneuver.

And my signature “across-the-wing sweep” maneuver.

I'll just hold this pose an instant longer than usual so the fans can get a few more shots.

I’ll just hold this pose for a moment longer so my fans can get a few more (very) pretty shots.
