Thursday Thriller: Presenting Pearl Cutts in “Styrofoam Showdown”

So many ordinary beings are envious of famous folks.

They think if only they were famous too, they would be universally loved and adored.

They don’t see how the glow of fame inevitably fades behind-the-scenes, where even the most sensitive and romantic of leading men are often tasked with the challenge of hiding their soft and loving hearts behind a facade of nonstop action-action-action.

(After all, how is a famous and feathery actor supposed to woo the ladybirds while reeking and dripping with sweat after yet another vigorous on-stage combat sequence?)

On that note, Love & Feathers is proud to present the famous and feathery actor Pearl Cutts in his latest one-avian play:

“Styrofoam Showdown”

The audience tiptoes in to find their seats in the barely-lit auditorium. Already feeling nervous just from knowing they will soon see their hero “live in action,” the eery silence just amplifies the general atmosphere of suspense.

They take their seats and wait. There is the sound of a brief scuffle behind the curtain, then all goes quiet again. Finally, the curtain parts….slowly.

The star leans close to the odd white object, seeming to be listening closely.

The star leans close to an odd white object, seeming to be listening closely. “Nope, I don’t think we can make that work,” he is heard to say.

He turns his (cute, feathery) head, still listening intently.

He turns his (cute, feathery) head, still listening intently. “No, that won’t work either, and no, we aren’t open to negotiation.”

(Here, there is a brief break as several audience members swoon and have to be either resuscitated or carried out of the auditorium.)

Suddenly, the star rises up to his full and imposing height!

Suddenly, the star rises up to his full and imposing height! In his most masculine and manly voice, he declares, “Well, see how you like this, then!”

(There is more swooning and another awkward “carry break”).

So that's how it's going to be, eh?, the star is heard to say as he opens his sharp curved beak, edges glinting in the dim light. He lowers his head and.....CHOMP.

In one swift movement, he opens his sharp curved beak, edges glinting in the dim light. He lowers his head and…..CHOMP.

More chomping sounds ensue.

The styrofoam visibly squirms as more chomping sounds ensue.

The sound of footsteps approaching distracts the star, and he looks up to see who dares to interrupt him.

The sound of footsteps approaching distracts the star, and he looks up to see who dares to interrupt him while he is vanquishing his enemy.

It is the MommyGuard. She is dangling something….a scent wafts his way. It is a toasted waffle!

Styrofoam (and audience) forgotten, the star sprints lightly in the direction of the toasted treat.

In the cavernous echo from backstage, the audience hears a distinctive, crispy sound…..CHOMP.

The. End.
